St. Andrews Youth 2 v 1 Kings
First league game of a new season did not go quite according to plan. No goalkeeper, Lacking defenders was not a good start and this was evident in the manner of the first goal. After going behind despite showing flashes of sperior quality. Kings Spent the remainder of the time chasing the game but without creating enough clear cut chances..hard work from Dave up front was rewarded with a goal 15 minutes from time after a neat set up from Burgess. That setup frantic finish with Kings still unable to create any clear cut chances. Not a completely hopeless but need to bring a keeper next week.

St Andrews  5  v  1  Kings Utd          (Sunday 25th May 2008)                                                 The last league game was a must win, but sadly it fell way short of that.  A very disappointing turn out on the day meant having to play a make shift side including players not having played at all in 2008.  So the result bearing all that in mind was no real shock.  St Andrews dominated from the off, 3-0 at half time.  It could however have been more, had it not been for a "vintage" class performance by Kings keeper Edwards.

The Second half saw Kings create more, playing now freely.  Chances came: Antwi hit the bar, then went just over before Milsom headed close.  St Andrews though did not rest and soon increased their lead, this time a converted penalty, 4-0.  Then when the day seemed all to long Kings got one back.  A superb curling lob from James "The Scorpion" Newton from the left edge of the box 20yards out, saints keeper no chance: 4-1 (60mins).  Unfortunately this could not be built on and with no more subs tiredness set in.  St Andrews went on to make it 5-1, before Edwards made further great saves keeping the score down to as was.  The final whistle was welcomed by all, Kings finish the season in 3rd place.

Kings Utd Team                                                                                                                 Edwards, Huggett, Ifale, Burfitt, O'Hara, Thomas, Kelly(O'Dwyer), Bryan, Milsom, Antwi, Newton.

Willeseden Legionaire  1  v  0  Kings Utd      (Sunday 18th May 2008)                                   "The Challenge Cup Final" -a day to remember for all the right reasons, you would think...?   Answer: Not this day!

Kings v Willeseden was plain and simple a game of want and belief.  Willeseden believed and they wanted the cup, far more than Kings.  Too many bad performances to name names, Kings underperformed all over the pitch.  Willeseden scored via a huge c... up at the back for Kings, not clearing their lines gifting the opposition a simple short range header, Edwards no chance: 1-0 28mins.  Although not long into the game, our heads dropped. Half time came all to soon, Kings not having tested their keeper at all.

The Second half had to see changes in play and direction, it did not really see either..  Willesden had the early chances Edwards to the rescue again blocking two, one-on-one chances before Willesden finaly got past him but somehow missed the target completely.  The day out was getting worse, but thankfully Kings then woke up.  The Scorpion scored a great header from a right hand cross, the linesman flagging offside, no goal (looked ok to me).   The dice had to be rolled and finaly they were, Kings made two quick changes Allen and O'Hara on giving more fight and pace to the attack.  Allen soon came mighty close, a run down the right saw him in sight of goal about to shoot when Willesden left back finaly challenged just in time, preventing a definate equalizer.  Then at the death Rutter came on but it was all to late.  Willesden hung on to lift the cup.  Kings beating St Andrews in the semi now a distant memory.  A gutting scene for sure and not one I could watch over.   Lets hope next week is better..

Kings Utd Team                                                                                                                 Edwards, Savage(Rutter), Jackson(Allen), Ifale, Burfitt, Hutchinson(O'Hara), J.Burgess, Huggett, Milsom, M.Burgess, Newton.

Broadway Celtic  2  v  5  Kings Utd        (Sunday 27th April 2008)                                               A goal fest was had at Northwick Park on what was a dreary day, weather wise.  The resurgent Kings dominated from the off missing chance after to chance in the first half hour most notably Hutch's 3 one on ones.  The Broadway keeper seemed to be everywhere though many shots were hit too high and wide.  As often happens in these sort of games Kings ended up falling behind, a terrible defensive error involving both centre backs, Ifale and Burfitt playing like the ball was a hot potato failing to clear from the 10yard box giving the opposition a gift, the shot hit low and hard giving Edwards the cat no chance.  1-0 (35mins) half time coming soon after, Kings still failing to score.

A wake up call was needed going into the second half and it arrived within 5minutes via Broadways second goal.  Again terrible defending from a Broadway set piece left Edwards exposed from point blank range 2-0 now to the home side. Kings then as if by magic got their scoring boots on, first Rutter chipping the keeper from 20yards (52mins) followed only 2minutes later by Mark Burgess trying the same, this time the Broadway keeper getting to it but weak hands in a rare mistake meant off and in(54mins).  What a come back 2zip down to 2all inside five minutes. Kings now had their tails up and though Broadway did not roll over they dominated goal chances. The last 3 Kings goals saw James Burgess score a great volley from the edge of the box, substitute O'Dwyer strike well from the right in off the post, before glory hunting cup final wannabe McCormack ended it with a great near post header from a corner (68, 75 & 85mins). The game ending 5-2 to Kings!Kings Utd Team                                                                                                                 Edwards, Hutchinson, Ifale, Burfitt(Allen), Savage, O'Hara, J.Burgess, McCormack, M.Burgess, Jackson(O'Dwyer), Rutter.

St Andrews  1  v  3  Kings Utd        (Sunday 20th April 2008)                                                       Kings finally showed the league how to beat St Andrews and at the same time book themselves a cup final place in the H&D Challenge Cup final on 18th May. Kings were well up for it from the off dominating the first 25minutes in which they deservedly took the lead Toby Milsom finishing (22mins) at the second bite in a goal mouth scramble from a corner.  Soon after Kings got nervy and though not completely overrun began to make sloppy passes inviting St Andrews to push on into our final third.  Pressure was mounting however clear chances were not, the first half ending 0-1 to Kings.

Then into the second half St Andrews starting strongest and scoring with their only real shot of the game, a rasping one at that from the edge of the box up into the top right hand corner, Edwards the cat no chance (55mins).  Game on or so it seemed, however Kings woke up and dominated the rest of the game in a master class of teamsmanship.   Two goals followed in quick succession the first from the smoking hot Milsom again, this time heading in (62mins) from close range from a free kick from wide on the left.  This was then followed only a few minutes later, a Huggett wonder volley from just outside the D beating the Saints keeper for pace and power. Kings continued to dominate to the end creating many more chances.  A great showing indeed, roll on the cup final!

Kings Utd Team                                                                                                                 Edwards, Jackson, Ifale, Burfitt, Savage, Milsom, J.Burgess, M.Burgess, Hutchinson(Hurst), Newton(Rutter).

Broadway Celtic  1  v  3 Kings Utd     (Sunday 9th March 2008)                                                                                                                                           Kings finally gave their die hard fans something to cheer about winning the above Challenge Cup tie v Broadway to set up a semi final clash with St Andrews. We looked strong with a squad of 15 including 2 new deadline day signings.   The first 25minutes saw a very physical game though neither side creating on goal strikes.  Kings then took the lead with a stinging near post header from the Scorpion off of a Huggett corner 0-1(30minutes).   Half time followed without response.

Into the second half and more territorial domination from Kings saw numerous corners though most ended up in the arms of the awaiting Broadway keeper.  Then came the sucker punch Kings defense flat footed the Broadway right midfielder in easy unchallenged one on one v Edwards the Cat and in 1-1 (54mins).  Kings came out fighting from the restart again attacking though chances went begging time after time.  Into Extra time with now all 3 subs used including Toby "croc shoes" Milsom who proved to be an instant success.  He scorred on 95 minutes heading down 10yards out under the opposition keeper 1-2.   Milsom then turned provider, winning the ball on the right before it was played out to James Burgess, who thundered in low from the edge of the 'D' 1-3 Kings (101mins).   The second period of extra time saw no additions, Kings winning 3-1: bring on the Saints!

Kings Utd  v  St Andrews  (Away win awarded)                                                                        Sunday 17th February 2008

Kings failed to field a team in Reg Ellis Cup Rd.1

Kings Utd  4  v  3  NLO                                                                                                              Sunday 2nd February 2008

A game of 2 halves part 3!  Kings playing at alternative home KTFC were first half quote "frankly a shambles".   Ok we had the bear 11 + Mitch but still....    Anyway onto the action or lack of it, NLO cruised the first half scoring twice (20 & 30mins) whilst Kings barely broke into their box looking like a herd of deer caught in a trucks headlights.

Second half Kings 2-down but now with "Mighty" Mitch on at right back began to wake and see thru the light.  Waves of pressure ensued before Rutter (he of the golden arches fame) latched onto an ott ball chipping the stranded NLO keeper from just inside the box 1-2 (55mins) the fightback was on.  Not long after Hutch took a corner from the right getting the ball back before sending in a ferocious inswinger which was met well at the back stick by Lonyo who slotted it home 2-2 (62mins) the crowd on their feet at last!  Kings now with the bit between their teeth kept up the pressure.  Scott "the ginger whinger" then did a Diego taking ball from keeper playing a one two with JB before running unassisted 40yards down the left cutting in across the box beating 4 players before slotting the ball from an almost impossible angle under the keeper and in off the right hand post.  This man only scores outrageous goals!   3-2 (72mins) to Kings the comeback complete or so it seemed.   No sooner had the "Ginger hysteria" calmed down NLO on a rare counter attack scored a soft goal, Kings defense asleep 3-3(82mins).   Thankfully this did not see Kings heads down: replying straight after via another good cross into top scorer Mark Burgess to thunder a low shot in 4-3(84mins).  Thankfully we held out winning a game through desire and belief.    Next week is a rest week and I think for once we deserve it!

Kings Utd  1  v  1  Highgate Albion                                                                           Sunday 27th January 2008

Very poor game of football was seen this above day.  Kings started very sluggish and though having possession dominance chances were few.  The Scorpion though should have scored on 15minutes put thru by mike on the edge of the box v the keeper only he chose wrongly to shoot early sending it 10yards wide of the left hand side post.   The rest of the first half saw the 2 goals of the game, the first to Highgate when a failed offside trap left Shaka storming out of his box just to late  Highgate striker rounding him and shooting low into bottom right corner easy 0-1(28mins).  Not long after Kings equalized Simon Huggett with a superb chip from edge of the box up and over Highgate keeper 1-1(33mins).

Into the second half soon after which Kings dominated start to finish but with no end product.  8corners wasted nobody challenging the keeper giving him an easy day at the office. 3 substitutions were made by Kings yet still nobody could finish.  Right at the death we almost lost it but for a fantastic tip over from Shaka.  Game ending 1-1 must show more fight and improve set piece concentration. Remember your jobs next week!

Kings Utd  1  v  3  St Andrews                                                                                        Sunday 6th January 2008

Though only just into 2008 the race for the League title is now effectively over.   Yes we had some key players missing however we lacked passion and the will to win.

First half was St Andrews from the whistle.  They outpassed and outthought us, playing quick clean balls to feet causing havoc for our back line.   The first half hour saw many chances to them though Kings veteran keeper Paul Edwards saved well as our back line also held tight.  Into the final 15minutes of the half and pressure finally told.   St Andrews again through the middle breaking into the box on mass seeing Butler challenged slightly late as he took advantage diving for gold.  Pen given and converted 0-1 (31mins).   Not long after pen number two came for St Andrews.  This time it was very harsh, Mark Burgess adjudged to have handled purposely when to all watching it looked like it his chest and he did not move his hand to the ball.  Ref 35yards away though gave it and St Andrews converted again 0-2 (35mins) half time following soon after.

Second half had to be better, however it did not start that way. Though possession was now even St Andrews still threatened goalwards more often.  Soon a third goal came a looped ball from the left saw St Andrews forward chased by Kings centre back as Paul came out hoping to meet the ball first, he was a fraction to late St Andrews winning the race heading the ball over keeper before bouncing into the empty net 0-3  (55mins).   Kings heads dropped further and tired legs were obvious to see.   Substituations were made we had to dig deep and if nothing else play for pride.  Last 30minutes saw Kings push on, now 3up front as St Andrews sat back on their lead.   Chances soon came for Kings, Newton making the keeper save twice.  Kings also made some strong headers from corners nearly counting testing the keeper further.  Finally Kings scored James Burgess (80mins) pushing through the middle playing a one-two with Charlie Antwi before burying the ball well into the bottom right corner of the net.   A further Kings chance from a corner followed soon after but alas sailed well over the bar.  Game ended soon after 1-3.   Time now for Kings to regroup and make sure we see out the season on a high.

Kings Utd  6  v  1  Nastaran FC                                                                                         Sunday 16th December 2007

A must win game came easy for Kings.  We were even able to play silly b....... late on, under very little pressure throughout.

Kings were very slow to start v a very poor side in Nastaran.  Passes were going missing everywhere the ball spending much of the first half hour off the pitch completely.  Soon enough though Kings got their timing back, passing quickly out wide into space creating a 7minute goal demolition: first goal from James Burgess (25mins), followed by a Jamie Kelly belter from 25yards into the top corner (29mins) before Danny Allen completed heading in a corner at the far post (32mins), Kings 3up and cruising.   Last 10 before half time saw Kings waste further chances now everybody wanting a goal and as such shooting from everywhere.

Second half should have seen a massacre however Kings wasted possession allowing the opposition back into a game which should have been over long since.  Kings still well up then made 2 changes, first Scott Burfitt on for Allen then Charlie Antwi for Kelly.  No sooner had Antwi come on he set James Newton up to score from close range right side of the box, Kings now 4up (71mins).  Then just under 10minutes later Kings Simon Huggett was dragged down inside the box a penalty to Kings.  After some pushing and shoving between Huggett and Mark Burgess who is the normal penalty taker, shouts from management saw common sense prevail (we thought) and Burgess line up to take it.  BUT never expect the norm anymore: Burgess played the ball forward to the right slightly and Huggett ran in and hammered the ball straight against the bar and out, miss of the season so far!   Soon enough though another chance came this time to no nonsense "Renaissance Man" Paul Rutter who struck low and hard from close range 5-0 Kings (85mins).   The rout was finished soon after Mark Burgess getting a goal after all from a set piece from the right good ball in from Huggett 6zip (87mins).   Kings need only now see out a few minutes but alas could not whilst attacking 9strong lost the ball and failed to recover 3players v Burfitt and Shaka, Nastaran getting a consolation goal in the last minute.    Kings win big, however must play the full 90minutes next time without losing concentration.

Highgate Albion   2   v   4   Kings Utd                                                                             Sunday 2nd December 2007

"A winters tale"  -   Kings back in business and doing what they must win!   Highgate caused problems early on reacting far better to the conditions than we did.  Whilst we played high into the driving wind and rain, they got it down and passed it.    Kings however did have plenty of early possesion but no final third penitration. Highgate however created 2 early chances one of which they took, scoring from a move down the middle finished with a low shot from the edge of the box on 20minutes 1-0.  Then with the weather improving Kings battled back with 3 set pieces causing problems in the Highgate box the last one seeing Highgates centre back blatantly handle the ball from a Charlies Antwi close range strike the ball off the arm and wide. The ref blew his whistle signalled the ball had hit his arm and pointed to the spot, some Highgate players protested though most said fair enough penalty, please dont send him off.  WHAT HAPPENED NEXT... Yes you guessed it the ref changed his mind seeing mud on the chest of the defender who was arguing against the pen, forgetting the fact he had mud down both sleaves also, he recinded the decision giving now only a corner to Kings:  A worse decision you will not see ever again. Kings eventualy took the corner from which a header was sent just wide. Half time soon followed without further score.

Into the second half and Kings finaly had the bit between their teeth. Only way to do this was together and it showed well. Almost total domination followed, Kings missed chances from Antwi and Newton before Charlie Antwi did score on 60minutes a great edge of box strike 1-1. Now back in the game it looked good, but another refereeing blunder saw Highgate score again 5 minutes later, a blatant offside not given the ball then played back to the oncoming midfielder who then hit a glorious 30yarder into the top right corner Shaka well beaten. This day could only get better and Kings threw themselves straight back into it. Soon enough the equaliser again came this time on 65mins to Paul Rutter (first start of the season) a good looping header from a right sided cross from Huggett 2-2. Corner after corner followed for Kings and soon enough one went in Huggett crossing Toby Milsom converting into the top left corner 2-3, 75mins gone. Kings now cruising against a Highgate side having to push on played the quick balls out of defence counter attacking football at its best. Chances came a plenty before a game of pinball wizzard between Antwi, the Highgate Keeper, the post and Rutter finished with Rutter blasting the ball low and hard into the net for his second  2-4 to Kings with 82mins on the clock.  The game ended soon after, Kings back on track.

Kings Utd  0  v   2  Broadway Celtic
Sunday 25th November 2007

Bottom line only one team started the game and that was the visitors who looked far more together, a team from the off fighting for each other.  Kings instead decided fighting with each other was more the order of the day.  Result Broadway doing the simple thing of quick feet pass and move, waltzing round Kings in the early stages scoring twice first on 8minutes then again on 16minutes. On top of this they hit the bar plus Shaka had to tip over also: an early rout was taking place. Both goals scored by BC's Ray, we were not challenging in midfielder and instead allowing them onto us and within site of goal to easily. Take out the 2 goals and the rest of the first half was pretty much balls wasted by both sides and Kings still fighting each other.

Second half was oh so different Kings having 90% of the possession, however good chances were limited early on. BC plugged away with the occasional counter attack though no real threat on goal. Kings with all this play must test the keeper you would have thought though headers from Antwi and Newton were high and wide before the bar was finally rattled on 60minutes a good strike from Newton. Last 20minutes and Kings changes saw 4up front gun ho, however end product was just not good enough. This day was not ours, luck had deserted us the ref on 70minutes missing a blatant penalty (Kelly scythed down in the box). Further changes saw BC go close once and Kings squander three good late chance before the whistle came all too soon.
Kings league challenge not over yet, however only a 100% record till the end of the season will now do!

Metroline FC  1  v  2  Kings Utd
Sunday 18th November 2007

A cold, wet, windy day playing on a terrible pitch:  just like the old days! Kings starting the game top of Div.1 and wanting revenge on Metroline for the previous drawn match just last month.  Today had to be different we had to start well and get a lead to defend ASAP. The game started as per the instructions to a tee. The first 8minutes saw Kings run riot scoring firstly from Mark Burgess on 5minutes nice play down the middle and then a second goal almost the same this time falling to Paul Fraser to riffle home from close range. Kings looking good as Metroline panicked every time they got the ball. The next 10minutes saw both previous scorers doing well in the final third however shots this time wide of the goal. Soon after Milsom limped off for Kings with ankle knock to be replaced by Kelly. Following this we did what our national side would do and sat back on the lead, silly considering only 25minutes into the game still. The rest of the first half saw Metroline into our final third a lot, though Shaka needed to make only one save tipping over the bar: Metroline’s corner headed well from close range. Half time soon followed…

In the second half Kings were playing down hill slightly but with the wind at them. We must spread play and get in behind them. Early on it worked Kings created 3 very good chances though shots were missed through lack of left feet prowess. Then from a no pressure situation last weeks hero Scott "Fergie" Burfitt turned villain with an outrageous back pass high into the air from 30yards aimed straight at Kings goal. Thankfully Shaka protected the goal well but could not stop the ball going off for a corner. Then, Yes you guessed it the corner saw Metroline score(55mins), their centre forward running in to header powerfully in at the near post. Flat footed defending did not help the cause. Now the game was back on and nerves kicking in. End to end for the next 15minutes before Kings steadied the ship well. Last two subs were used Rutter on for his debut (Fraser off) and Antwi on also up front (Osbourne off). Chances fell in the last 20minutes to Rutter, Antwi and Mark Burgess; though none converted into goals. The game ended soon after with a score of 1-2.   Kings win again and stay top, still unbeaten!

Nastaran FC   1  v  3    Kings Utd
Sunday 11th November 2007

Back to league business today (still unbeaten in H&D Div.1) and the chance to go to top proper. Kings changes this week saw Newton back up front but Thomas out as he looks to be signing for a side in the Malaysian Premier League..

This was a must win game but started not so brightly for Kings. Nastaran centre forward caused a number of issues early on before scoring a freak cross/shot 25yards out on the right side, looping over Shaka's head 1-0 Nastaran on only 15mins and Kings shaken. Thankfully a very quick response saw Kings draw level 5minutes later James Newton receiving the ball on the right of the box beating the centre back and just pushing the ball past the keeper whilst struggling to keep his balance.   Onwards and upwards it seemed, yet again Nastaran came back with their centre forward thru one-on-one v Shaka who thankfully brilliantly blocked the shot and scooped the ball up with his new shiny gloves.   Kings then created many chances including a Mark Burgess near post flick (from a Huggett cross) which flew 5yards into and over the goal line only for the Nastaran defender to kick out with the ref missing the whole thing.... 1-1 still and half time followed fast.

Second half saw Kings shape finally give the options needed for keeper to defence to attack passing (width at last).   Then of all the things another freak goal this time to Kings and of all people Scott "Puffin-Goldilocks-Clarence the club clown" Burfitt. Picking the ball up from Shaka,  Scott galloped down the right and from 35yards out hit a screamer of a cross/shot which swerved like a rocket up and over the despairing Nastaran keeper 1-2 to Kings on49mins. Now Kings were on a roll finally controlling the game outright. Further good shots were had by Kelly, Milsom and an interesting one from Savage before up popped "The Scorpion" Newton again for his brace, in behind the defence pulling the trigger from close range 1-3Kings with 20minutes still to go.
All 3 subs were then used as Kings ran out comfortable winners on the day Burfitt scored a belter...! Top of Div.1 we sit well tonight.

Headstone Manor    4   v    3   Kings Utd
Sunday 4th November 2007

The Middx Cup should be the highlight of the season, especially being a previous winner of the pinnacle "Premier Cup" not so long ago.  However a day to forget is what reality delivered.

The previous weeks good win counted for nothing as Kings not only made far too many passing mistakes they also squandered goal chances that should have seen this tie won for Kings by half time.   Charlie Antwi scored first for Kings on 5minutes, looking easy at this time but soon after a back pass to Shaka bobbled somehow over his foot and into the goal 1-1.   Freak goal at 1-1 should have not been an issue but missed chances at the other end were not counting for Kings and Headstone soon carved their first real chance dancing round midfield and defence 2-1 Headstone on 20mins.  Reon then made amends for 2 earlier misses with a cracking strike from 30yards bottom right hand corner Kings back 2-2 on 30mins.   But yet again woeful communication allowed a crazy back header and Headstone in behind scored again 3-2 5minutes later.  Half time soon followed, 45minutes to wake up and get it sorted.

Second half though started as the first ended, and Headstone soon scored yet again a ball through the middle not dealt with leaving the Kings defence flapping and easy pickings for the opposition 4-2 on 55mins.   Kings then made all 3 changes and 4upfront all attack began.   Chances came and went again until on 80minutes a penalty to Kings,  sub striker Fraser wrestled to the ground cutting in from the left.   Mark Burgess stepped up and converted 4-3 and still time, however 2 late chances including a one-on-one from 10yards from Ifale whistled just past the post and out of play.  The final whistle followed soon after.  Verdict: without doubt the poorest Middx cup display in a long, long time was seen today.   Overall the team did not perform and things must improve quickly.

Kings Utd   4   v   1   Willesden Legionaire
Sunday 28th October 2007

I take a week off and we win a game easily.......
Well what do I say other than start with well done for a very good performance!
First half saw Kings dominate from the off scoring firstly via James Newton on 15minutes and again via a penalty converted by captain Mark Burgess on 42minutes.

Into the second half and Kings substitutions were made to keep the attacking tempo up.
(One change was a little odd in fashion however as Jamie Kelly was taken off after losing
rock-paper-scissors: unluckily picking paper to Mikey Osborne's scissors, doh!). Many good
chances followed and soon enough James "the scorpion" Newton scored his second an absolute
screamer from 30yards on 64minutes. Willesden not that long after (80minutes) against the run
of play were awarded a penalty: a dive Greg Louganis would have been proud of
Mark Burgess barely making any form of contact. Finally on the 86th minute Charles Antwi
scored Kings fourth goal, sealing a nice easy win for a change.
4-1 to Kings and top of the table tonight.

Hampden Utd    3  v   4     Kings Utd

Sunday 21st October 2007

Game of two halves part 2!  Kings Utd travelled to Hampden last Sunday with 14 unbeaten players wearing a brand new kit and hungry for another win.  Into the game finally (30minutes late kicking off) and early possession for Kings was wasted through poor final balls up front. Team formation was not suiting early on and as such Hampden felt they had a good chance. Flowing passing from their side saw chances few but finishing second to none. First scoring from a verry well worked passing move down the left crossed in and headered beyond a despairing Bryan from close range 1nil Hampden on 23minutes.  Hampden then pounced again right thru the middle this time, Kings defence too slow on moving up, striker straight in one on one with Bryan and 2up with ease on 35minutes. The final 10minutes saw Kings hold on but looking anything but happy.  Far too much negative energy wasted for me.

Second half saw one immediate Kings change thru injury James Burgess off and Mike Osbourne on with Mark Burgess now moving back to sweeper. Whistle to start game and almost immediately Hampden broke thought the middle yet again scoring though this time well off side, well played defence. Soon after an injured Dean Jackson limped off for Dave-(donkey)-Impey to come on.     Kings immediately gained a free kick out on the left about 30yards out. Huggett swung it in and who else but the donkey ran in as the ball cleared the wall and stroked it under the keeper from appx 10yards first touch, 2-1 and on the way back on 50minutes. Kings were now dominating possession when then a Hampden midfield runner broke unchallenged down the middle and again past Bryan 3-1 Hampden the stress of watching was killing me..   But thankfully our never say die attitude found Kings continue creating and this half none of the negativity, challenges were fierce and commitment as said unrelenting.
Soon enough a ball down the left found Kings winger James Newton who then cut in and from just outside the box lobbed the opposition keeper beautifully nestling into the top right corner on 70minutes, 3-2 game on again! Last 20mins saw a couple of Hampden chances but far more of Kings on the attack, followed but a few over exuberant challenges in the middle  concluding with a red card for Hampdens left midfielder for a 2 footed tackle.  Into the final 10minutes now and a from a ball thru the middle Kings Simon Huggett leveled the game with time still left. Into the final 2minutes and YES it happened, a scramble in Hampdens box saw the ball falling to James Newton who thundered in from close range 4-3Kings. The whistle followed soon after and with it another 3points for Kings and on we march.   I must now take a week off as really drained :-).

Kings United     2   v   2    Metroline
Sunday 14th October 2007

Kings Utd dropped their first points at home last Sunday in a classic game of two halves. The first unfortunately went to Metroline, starting brightly full of running and direct balls on the attack. Kings midfield 3 suffered v Metrolines flat 4 and were soon pulled all over the pitch. Then on 15minutes under seemingly no huge threat Kings keeper Bryan misplaced a clearance directly against the Metroline centre forward who then shot straight back into the bottom right corner Metroline 1up.   The next 15minutes saw Kings produce only 3 balls near the opposition box without 1 at all of them testing the keeper. On the 35th minute Metroline broke again this time down the middle where a run on from midfield saw 3 defenders sucked in before a square ball on the edge of the box reached a totally unmarked Metroline forward to slot again easily under Bryan 2up and 55minutes to go (gulp!). Soon enough though after a good save from Bryan and the first save from Metrolines keeper half time arrived.
After a very quick turn around the second half started and all out attack from Kings was the orders.   Just 10minutes in Green was substituted due to a knee injury by Thomas, could he work a comeback miracle again… Soon enough Kings were peppering the Metroline goal, long throws, corners and free kicks galore. This culminated on 60minutes with a free kick from Kings left swung in high being met by the Metroline centre back just in front of Kings Danny Allen and looping up and into the top corner, Kings now one back 1-2 own goal. Now the game was on, over the final 30minutes Bryan saved superbly from a long range free kick and all the Kings front line came close in what was Kings half for sure. Then not before time a ball again high into the Metroline box was headed down to Lonyo Ifale for Kings who rocketed a half volley into the roof ofthe net 2-2 and time to win it.
Unfortunately a win did not follow though late chances for Kings by Thomas and at the death Newton could well have won it. A draw and a lesson learnt on slow starting.

AC Cerrera   3   v   5    Kings Utd
Sunday 30th Septmeber 2007

Kings Utd were involved in a goal fest / nail biter last Sunday 30th playing as the away team at home…..
This was just the start of an up and down day all round. Kings started brightly with the game plan of pass and move, AC Carrera looked more for quick balls directly forward though the first 10 drew a blank all round.  Then on 12minutes a ball down the left for AC Carrera saw a 35yard strike fly like a rocket over Kings keeper Jamie Hewitt and right into the top right corner 1nil AC Carrera and Kings shaken. Kings then themselves started to play more direct down the middle and through lots of possession created the chance for Mark Burgess to draw them level on 20minutes. The next 15minutes saw Kings Drive forward again and again with only the final ball letting them down. Then another blow on 35minutes AC Carrera scoring a second this time down the right where Hewitt came out to collect but was too slow the winger rounding him easily scoring from a tight angle 2-1 AC.  Half time soon followed where much was said as Kings sat a little dazed.

Second half saw all out attack from Kings with Mark Burgess scoring a header from close range on 50minutes to go 2-2, before another mistimed clearance by Hewitt in the Kings goal saw AC up for the third time in the match score now 3-2. Kings continued to create chances again and again but it was not happening, Hewitt then saving briliantly 3 times from close range getting his confidence back. Then with half hour to go Kings Subs were all used including Reon Thomas who then on 80minutes equalised again for Kings a left footed shot from just inside the box 3-3.  Normal time ended and into extra time the day was never go to end it seemed.
Thankfully for Kings they saw victory in the mist and dominated the final 30minutes from start to finish with 2 more goals the first from Thomas again on 95minutes and then finaly from Steve Green on 111minutes, Kings win 5-3, into round 2 safely but with some home work to do.

Willesden Legionaire   1   v   3    Kings Utd

Sunday 23rd September 2007

Kings Utd did it again on Sunday making 2 wins out of 2 this time away against newly promoted Willesden Legionaire at The Shamrock Club-Acton. Like last week Kings dominated from the first whistle with both Green, Burgess and Osbourne missing guilt edged chances thru one on one with the Willesden keeper inside the first 15minutes. Not long after a slight scare at the other end with keeper Hewitt seeing a long range effort just fix wide of his bar. Soon enough though Kings were back on the attack and the deadlock was finally broken on 29minutes Mark Burgess rising at the far post from a Bryan left sided set piece cross, Burgess is directing his header down well and under the despairing Willesden keeper Kings 1up.
From this a few more chances were created however final balls were loose and play kept breaking up. Willesden gained heart from the missed chances and started to push Kings back at times though very little action in the box. Then after another missed set piece by Kings, Willesden counter attacked down the middle where a missed defensive header by Kings allowed Willesden centre forward unmarked v a stranded Hewitt of the line and simply chipped him from the edge of the box making it 1-1 on 40minutes against the run of play.

Half time soon followed Kings must take their chances second half. The turn around now having Kings with the wind behind advantage started better, Green and Bryan seeing alot of the ball and thankfully 5minutes in a cross from the left saw a close range thunderbolt from Mark Burgess come back off the post to Burgess again for a header right back into the net 2-1Kings. The game now at its peak Willesden again game back a little testing Hewitt from close range where Hewitt made a sublime one handed save. Not long after Green making a left sided run broke free of the defence and was just about to cross when a reckless challenge saw him need treatment for a twisted knee that ended his day early, the ref giving only a free kick..
On came Canoville for Green and the attacking continued. Now inside the last 15minutes Kings made a final change with Jackson on for Milsom adding a midfielder to help maintain score advantage.   Not lon after on 82minutes Mark Burgess made sure of the win and his hat trick this time from a low driving shot from the right side of the box 3-1Kings and game over! The whistle followed and now Kings sit 2nd top just behind St Andrews on goal difference only.

Kings Utd in the Middlesex Cup-Rd 1 next week and we're looking forward to it big time!

Hewitt, Savage, J.Burgess, Allen, Burfitt, Osbourne, Milsom, Ifale, M.Burgess, Green, Bryan

N.L.O    0   v    4     Kings Utd
Sunday 16th September 2007

Kings Utd last Sunday won easily in their first league game of the new H&D div 1 season thrashing N.L.O @ Muswell Hill Sports Fields. Never under pressure Kings dominated from the off on a sunny but rather blustery day. After a couple of  early opportunities Kings broke the deadlock on 15minutes Steve Green tearing down the left before cutting in and shooting under the keeper from just inside the box, keeper no chance. Soon after Mark Burgess unleashed a rocket shot from 30yards unluckily catching the the top left post and coming back out. Now totally dominant on possession Kings pushed on and were rewarded with a second goal on 30minutes a Simon Huggett half volley from 20yards out nestling nicely in the top right corner.

Half time soon followed where Green was replaced due to ankle injury by Canoville up front. The second half started much slower with Kings now playing into the wind, the first ten minutes saw the ball up and over the NLO bar into the woods more than down and played on the pitch. Kings realised the wind was not in their favour and as such got back to the pass and movement style they do so well. Domination soon followed again with both Canoville and
Newton
up front for Kings causing mayhem in the NLO final third. On the 65th minute Canoville broke down the right cut in and shot hard the keeper parried but straight to Mike Osbourne who thundered in from close range Kings 3up, soon after Trevor Canoville grabbed himself a well earned goal (on 75minutes) again coming in from the left cutting in before sliding the ball neatly below the despairing NLO keeper. Kelly then came off the bench for Mark Burgess though no further goals were added before time.

Zip-4 to Kings it ended, a very solid start to the season indeed

Kings Utd Team: Bryan, Savage, J.Burgess, Allen, Burfitt, Osbourne, Huggett, Ifale, Newton
, M.Burgess, Green.
Subs: Kelly, Canoville
